Description
Young People’s Club MALE AND FEMALE MINSTRELS, Assembly Room of the Presbyterian Church, Thursday, March 21, 1935. Performance Starts 8:15 P.M. Adults 25¢ Children 15¢. Broadside 14 in x 11 in. Printed with the union label. A community advertisement for a minstrel performance by the young people of a Presbyterian Church in 1935, this broadside is unusual for its generic anonymity, as the name and address of the church where the event was held were deliberately omitted, in all likelihood because any interested members of the community lived and worked in the same community and knew both the name and location of the church. It is noteworthy that in March of 1935, sufficient awareness existed in this community to deliberately make this announcement anonymous, without the church’s name or the name of the place where the event was held. The involvement of children in an event with such strong racial bias is also noteworthy, as the Young People’s Club of this unidentified Presbyterian Church sponsored this event. This cardboard broadside has been expertly cleaned, mended and flattened.
