Wilhelmj, August. Musical Quote from Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, Signed, Inscribed and Dated. Photograph of Wilhelmj in profile, an albumen print by Warren of Boston, dated March 18. 1879, with a descriptive biographical label. Condition fine. 26 cm x 37.5 cm. Framed and glazed. Fine. Wilhelmj (1845 – 1908) was the concertmaster at the first Bayreuth festival in 1876, and made a world tour thereafter 1878 – 1882. This quote from the first movement of Beethoven’s Concerto in D-Major for Violin was penned during that tour in New York. He also composed for the violin, and is perhaps best known for his arrangement of Bach’s melody as Air on the G String.
