Description

[Ted McKnight Kauffer, Association Copy] Fry, Roger, Transformations, Critical and Speculative Essays on Art. London: Chatto & Windus, 1926. [Frontispiece of a T’ang Dynasty Ram’s head; viii; 230 pages], 29 cm. No dust-wrapper, an association copy signed and inscribed to a Random House founder, Herbert Wise by E. McKnight Kauffer: “for Herbert, a souvenir of a most happy meeting, (Ted) E. McKnight Kauffer London 1929.” 36 plates, additional text illustrations. White cloth spine and hard gray paper boards. Spine sunned, soiled and worn, otherwise a good copy with an unusual association with one of the founders of modern advertising art. Kauffer (1890 – 1954) was much appreciated in Britain but not in his native United States, despite a show dedicated to his art at MOMA.
