[Rowlandson, Thomas], The Tour of Doctor Prosody, in Search of the Antique and the Picturesque Through Scotland, the Hebrides, the Orkney and the Shetland Isles; Illustrated Through Twenty Humourous Plates. London, Matthew Illey, Somerset Street,  1821.  251 pages.  Quarto. 23 cm. The Rowlandson hand-colored plates are interlined, therefore there is no off-setting of color onto adjacent text pages. Binding is signed, “Bound by Wood, London.” Full red morocco extra, untrimmed copy, sides, back, broad inside, borders gold-tooled, gilt top page edge, other page edges uncut. Hinges worn, but secure. Small crack at the foot of the back cover. Gold-tooled morocco leather book plate of Henry W. Poor (1844 – 1915), publisher of Poor’s Railway Manual,  of H.V. and H.W. Poor, the predecessor firm to Standard & Poor’s. Mr. Poor’s library was sold in 1908. A very fine copy of this illustrated first edition  from the famous library of one of the greatest American book collectors of the Gilded Age. Prior bookseller’s description pasted to front fly-leaf.
