Description
Johnes, Rev. Timothy, Manuscript Sermon Written in Abbreviated Form, Delivered at the First Presbyterian Church in Morristown, New Jersey, March 16, 1784. One sheet of laid paper, 13.5 cm x 16.5 cm, folded once, making four pages. Ink on paper, together with a descendant’s “Key to Contractions” Rev. Johnes used to write his sermon notes onto such a small sheet of paper. Rev Johnes preached on Titus 1:16: “They claim to know God but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.” (New International Version). Rev Johnes was the pastor at the First Presbyterian Church in Morristown from August 13, 1742 to September 1794, and during the American Revolutionary War 1775 – 1783. Condition fine.
