A scrapbook, 21 cm x 20 cm, stamped linen cloth over paper boards, 27 leaves used only on the recto, plus 2 blank leaves. A collection of printers’ devices for 64 printers, with few duplications. The devices were cut from title-pages or other pages and pasted into this scrapbook. Dates range from 1627 to 1827. Two of the printers were women: Elizabeth Redmayne in London (1689) and la veuve Foucault in Paris (1727).

[English & Foreign Printers’ Devices] Title Pages and Designs by Various English & Foreign Publishers, 1842. A scrapbook, 21 cm x 20 cm, stamped linen cloth over paper boards, 27 leaves used only on the recto, plus 2 blank leaves. A collection of printers’ devices for 64 printers, with few duplications. The devices were cut from title-pages or other pages and pasted into this scrapbook. The hand-lettered title-page is dated 1842. Some soiling at the top of a few pages, not affecting the devices. Dates range from 1627 to 1827. London, Eton, Bath, Bargate, Oxford, Edinburgh, Paris, Amsterdam, Basle, Hannover, Geneva and Venice are all represented. Two of the printers were women: Elizabeth Redmayne in London (1689) and la veuve Foucault in Paris (1727).
