White, Frank A., Keller’s Hotel, Merrick Road Exchange, a photograph of the hotel on the Merrick Road in what is present-day Valley Stream, New York, [undated]. Image: 15.2 cm x 20.5 cm; Mount: 25 cm x 30.5 cm. Silver gelatin photograph stamped on the verso by photographer Frank A. White, General Photographer, 313 Wierfield Street, Brooklyn, New York, ca. 1880. Frank [A.] White served in Company I, 1st Veteran Regiment, New York State Volunteer Cavalry, the Union Army, according to the U.S. Army Heritage Center. On one end of the hotel is a separate entrance to “Diogenes’ Lantern,” with a happy mid-day patron sitting on the steps accompanied by his German short-haired pointer. In front of the main entrance to Keller’s Hotel stand the proprietor and another man. Condition very good, near fine.
