Ferrier, George Stratton, Original Watercolor by George Stratton Ferrier (1852 – 1912), Signed and Dated 1909. 12.5 cm x 14.5 cm, a New Year’s Card of a sunset over brown heather, signed and dated in the lower right-hand corner of the image on the front, outside and addressed inside, “With best wishes for a good year, from Mr. and Mrs. Ferrier, 41 Herriot Row, Edinburgh, December 1909.” Watercolor paper aging and slightly browned, indications of mounting inside. George Stratton Ferrier, R.I., R.S.W., R.E., died in Edinburgh on February 26, 1912. He began his career as a painter by exhibiting At Authmithie, Forfarshire at the Royal Academy, London. His etchings were published in The Portfolio. He became a fellow in the Royal Society of Scottish Watercolourists, and a fellow of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1898. He was also a director of the Scottish Arts Club in Edinburgh.
