Description
Morrell, Wayne, “Old Grist Mill, Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia,” pencil sketch on paper, signed and dated Feb. 29th ’54, as “Wayne Morrell.” 12 cm x 20 cm. Wayne Beam Morrell, Jr. (1923 – 2013) signed his work “Wayne Morrell.” This is an unpublished sketch, probably made as a possible preliminary study for a painting. Titled and located by the artist on the sketch, this sketch is one of his early landscape subjects. Morrell was a graduate of Lincoln Prep School in Philadelphia, then attended the Philadelphia School of Industrial Art and the Drexel Institute. He worked as an industrial exhibit designer and as the art director for the John Oldham Studios in Whethersfield, Connecticut. Morrell left the field of design and pursued the fine arts full-time in 196, primarily as a landscape painter. Following this transition, his paintings are found in many private and public collections. Condition is fine.
