Silverman, Mel. An unusual and large woodblock print by Melvin Frank Silverman (1931 – 1966), East River Morning, printed on a large sheet of mulberry paper (24 3/4 in x 26 1/2 in), titled and signed by the artist, the sheet is numbered on the verso lower-right 00132. This copy is number 12 of 40, an edition size recorded on the print by the artist. Condition is fine, no adhesive was ever applied to this copy.
Mel Silverman was widely respected in the 1950s and ’60s not only for his skill, but also because he accomplished so much in his short life. A native of Chicago, he received his B.A.E. from the Art Institute of Chicago, which awarded his a fellowship to study in Europe. His first one-man show was in 1956 in New York.
