The stiff gray front paper wrapper has come unsewn, but the front cover of the wrapper, illustrated with George Cruikshank’s woodcut, “Expansion of the Understanding.” The initial blank and George Cruikshank’s etched frontispiece, “To the Comic Annual,” are still together. Back wrapper lists Goldsmith’s British Classics. Signed and dated on the initial blank by “E Church 1847.” Cohn 383.
