Piatt, John James, Idyls and Lyrics of the Ohio Valley. London: Longmans, Green and Co., 1894. 8vo, 160 pages, a woodcut frontispiece by Weisbrodt Nov/80 and second unsigned illustration at the end, made from a woodcut of George H. Boughton’s painting, “The Two Farewells.” A presentation copy, inscribed on the half-title to: “Henry White Esq., With kind regards of The Author. Edinburgh, D[ecembe]r 25, 1894”. Signed a second time on the dedication page as “John J. Piatt”. A one-time Librarian of the United States House of Representatives (1871-1875), the United States Consul at Cork, Ireland (1882-1893) and at Dublin April – September 1893, John James Piatt contributed both verse and prose to various newspapers. This was his “new edition” printed on laid paper, still in the original publisher’s paper boards. Advertisements from Longmans for Mr. Piatt’s poetry bound in at the end. A fine presentation copy.
