An autograph letter, ink on paper, one page, from Wolcott as the Governor of Massachusetts to the Bishop of Massachusetts in relation to an invitation from the Bishop to the Governor to lunch with Admiral Sampson. Addressed to the Bishop as “My dear Billy.” Written text: “173 Com[monweal]th Ave. Feb[ruar]y 3, 1899, My Dear Billy, My suspicions having been confirmed that you had succeeded in stealing a march upon the Governor of your native State, I now unreservedly & with much pleasure accept your invitation to meet the Admiral on Tuesday next. Sincerely y[ou]rs, Roger Wolcott.”  The letter confirms a luncheon engagement. Ink annotation at the top in a secretarial hand indicates it was for lunch. Adm. William Thomas Sampson 1840-1902 was the hero of the Battle of Santiago Bay, Cuba, during the Spanish – American War. Condition is fine.
