George III, King of Great Britain and Ireland. Partly Engraved Document Signed as King at St. James’s, 1 January 1798. This document is countersigned by William H. C. Bentinck, the Duke of Portland, and the then one-time Prime Minister, serving here as Home Secretary, 1 page, 9 ¼ inches x 13 ¼ inches, ink on vellum. George III appoints Thomas Carlos a lieutenant in the Second Royal Manx Regiment of Fencible Infantry. The King signed at the upper left as “George R.” Just below, there is a fine white seal in white paper over wax. The third Duke of Portland, William H. C. Bentinck, would serve as Prime Minister again from 1807 to 1809, having already served in 1783. This document has some light soiling, but is in overall very good condition.
