Description

Romano, Clare. Walls of Dubrovnik. 26 1/8 in x 17 ¼ in. A color collagraph on heavy wove paper, signed and titled by the artist. An artist’s proof by Clare Romano, also known as Clare Camille Romano (1922 – 2017). An American artist, Clare Romano captured the storied, ancient walls of Dubrovnik in an extraordinary use of layered colors. Walls of Dubrovnik (1966) is considered one of her principal works. Another copy is held at The Smithsonian. Her signature collagraph technique was perfected during her stay in Yugoslavia with her husband as visiting American artists for the United States Information Agency. This print was unframed and the mat removed. There are traces of tape and glue on the edges of the untrimmed sheet, otherwise a strong fine impression in very good condition.
