London, Clarke, Warwick Lane, and All Booksellers and Sold at Every Railway Station in the Kingdom, 1847. First edition in book form. All 30 issues, a complete run. Created as an alternative to Punch. Other contributors to the illustrations were: George Augustus Sala, Hablot Knight Browne, Joseph Kenny Meadows, Lionel Percy Smythe, Cham, Robert Barnabas Brough, Henry George Hine, Isaac Nicholson.

Description

Smith, Albert [Richard] and Reach, Angus B[ethune] editors, The Man in the Moon. With Illustrations by Phiz, Kenny Meadows, Hine, Nicholson, Thomas A. Mayhew,   Smythe, Cham; and Others. Vols. I, II. Angus B. Reach, editor Vols. III, IV, V. London, Clarke, Warwick Lane, and All Booksellers and Sold at Every Railway Station in the Kingdom, 1847 – 1849. First edition in book form. Two copies of the monthly serial are recorded at the British Library and in the British Library Reference Collection. Other copies are found at Princeton (incomplete copy), the Morgan Library and in the Koninklijke Biblioteek, Den Haag. Seven volumes: five volumes of text in 16mo, with two volumes of fold-out, linen-backed plates, thirty monthly issues. The original wrapper for No. 10, October 1847 is bound in with advertisements in the front of Vol. I, preceding the printed text. Seven matching volumes bound in quarter tan calf with patterned spines over marbled boards. Internal condition fine, bindings show wear, but are original and secure.
