Beecher, Henry Ward. An early autograph letter signed H. W. Beecher, ink, two pages, dated October 4, 1854. Beecher explains why he can’t accept an invitation to come to Buffalo to give a single lecture: “I could not come to Buffalo to lecture, unless it was one of a circle of lectures.” He further explains his rationale and motivations. Fine. Sold with a carte-de-visite photograph of young Beecher; an advertising “Guide Book” to a Beecher lecture published by S. D. Lewis & Co., a shoe manufacturer, demonstrating the Beecher Family propensity for self-branding; and a long newspaper review clipping from Avon, New York of a Beecher event.
