Thayer, William R. Postal History. Cavour. Senato del Regno, Legislatura XXIII, Sessione 1a, Resoconto Sommario, Martedi, 11 giugno 1912. A record of discussion in the Italian Senate on June 11, 1912 about the Italian edition of William Roscoe Thayer’s biography of Cavour was sent in a Senato del Regno stationery envelope by Senator De Cesare to Thayer’s address at 8 Berkeley Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts via registered mail, label Roma N. 2 2389, on June 12, 1912 via New York, where it was postmarked June 24, 1912. When the envelope arrived in Cambridge on June 25, Dr. Thayer was not there, so it was forwarded to him in London at the Wellbeck Palace Hotel, on Wellbeck Street, receiving a registered stamp on July 5, 1912, on Threadneedle Street, London, as well as a London post office registered label R. E.C. 81, No. 484 and stamp London E.O. B 2 July 5, 1912. There is an additional red ink stamp on the back: “If not delivered return to Baring Brothers, & Co., Ltd., London E.O. 5 Jul 1912.” Other pencil annotations were made on the envelope while in transit across the Atlantic two times. Fine. The enclosure has the sections of the Senate record about Dr. Thayer high-lighted. Enclosure condition is also fine.
