Africa. Madagascar. Malagasy Republic. Airmail cover on an airmail envelope dated December 13, 1938 sent from Morafenobe via Mozambique to Athens, Greece, with three stamps: Hova Woman, 25 centimes, violet and dark brown, Scott 154 A12; Air Post Stamp 1.5 Francs bright blue, Airplane and Map of Madagascar, map in red, Scott C4 AP1; and, 3 Francs General Joseph Simon Galliéni, green, Scott 189 A14. There is a triangular stamp, “T” on the front cover, with a penciled annotation in Greek. Postmarked clearly three times on the front: “Morafenobe Madagascar 13 Dec 38.” Postmarked on the back: once “Maintirano, Madagascar 16 Dec 38”; once “Mozambique 21.12.38”; and twice “ATHANI Poste Aerienne 26 XII 38.” The envelope was addressed to Monsieur Georges Liounis, 50 rue Socratous, Athenes, Grèce, sent from A. Liounis, Morafenobe – Maintirano – Madagascar. Very good condition, slight ink smudge on the front.
