[Guild Press] Anderson, Ronnie, editor. 1970 International Guild Guide. Washington, D. C.: Guild Press Ltd., 1970. First edition of the second guide printed by Guild Press Ltd. 21.5 cm, [iv; 167 pages; ix] Red paper cover, cover design by Vick Lester. On the verso of the title page is a notice “ALL INQUIRIES, INFORMATION ON LISTINGS AND OTHER MATTERS RELATING TO THE GUILD GUIDE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED TO: RONNIE ANDERSON EDITOR INTERNATIONAL GUILD GUIDE BOX 385 – BEN FRANKLIN STA. WASHINGTON, D.C. 20044.” The second gay guide issued by the Guild Press, as the 1969 was the first gay guide issued, according to Ronnie Anderson’s “A Note from the Editor.” Anderson was among the first to introduce a coding system to identify the types of activity and personal preferences for various types of persons. The first 101 pages are dedicated to the areas in the United States and the Caribbean. From page 102 to page 167 are the other countries of the world, followed by a few pages for notes. Pages 149 – 152 were removed, and probably carried in a prior owner’s pocket, then carefully laid back in. They remain loose, but whole, no loss of text. Otherwise, this is a very good copy of the second “much improved” and “updated” international gay guide issued by the Guild Press. This copy bears the stamp of the legendary Oscar Wilde Memorial Bookshop, 291 Mercer Street, New York, N.Y. 10003.
